Extension of Parent’s Leave and Benefit

Employees who are parents are entitled to avail of parent’s leave with protection of employment. The leave must be taken within 2 years following the birth or adoption of the child. With effect from 1 August 2024, parent’s leave and Parent’s Benefit is increasing from 7 weeks to 9 weeks. Hence, from 1 August 2024, any parent who previously availed of all or part of the 7 week’s parent’s leave can now apply for the balance up to 9 weeks, assuming their child is under the age threshold.
