Local Property Tax Filing Window Closes After Significant Last-Minute Activity

The filing window for the latest Local Property Tax cycle has now closed, following a surge in activity from homeowners eager to update their property valuations on time.

Revenue reported a sharp increase in submissions on the final day, with more than 18,000 returns completed by midday ahead of today’s 5.30pm cut-off. Homeowners were required to provide an updated valuation to ensure they remain in the correct band for future LPT charges.

The original deadline had been scheduled for last Friday. Revenue granted an extension to this evening, and since the extra time was announced, over 115,000 additional valuations have been filed.

This marks the first national LPT revaluation since 2021. Revenue acknowledged that many homeowners sought guidance throughout the process. Its helpline has been operating at full capacity, responding to around 7,000 calls each day during the past week. Staff have also been processing approximately 100,000 pieces of correspondence, covering everything from postal queries to paper-based returns.

Revenue confirmed that property owners who reached out for assistance, whether via MyEnquiries, post or other communication channels, will be treated as compliant provided they file their return promptly once a response is issued. The authority noted that this approach is intended to support taxpayers who engaged early and made genuine efforts to meet their obligations.
